Kenneth Chen, M.D., is a pediatric oncologist at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. His laboratory uses genomic and functional genetic technologies to study how dysregulation of gene expression drives childhood cancers. His research focuses on understanding why childhood cancers start in the first place, especially how certain genes get “switched on or off” in ways that allow cancer to grow. Using powerful genetic tools, Dr. Chen’s lab looks for the hidden patterns that drive these changes, with the goal of finding new, more precise treatments for kids with cancer. Dr. Chen trained at Johns Hopkins University and The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and in addition to his 2022 V Scholar grant, Dr. Chen has received national recognition from organizations like Damyon Runyon, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and Hyundai Hope on Wheels for his innovative work.
